Susan presented an influential woman of consequence. Born in 1918 in Chicago IL, died 2011 in Rancho Mirage, CA. Raise awareness of breast cancer, supporter of ERA and abortion rights, supporter of equal pay. Long standing struggle with alcohol.  Ranked in top 10 if most admired women’s pole.  1991 Medal of Freedom by Pres George HW Bush. Betty Ford.

Let’s get to it and share our favorite things:

Heidi

  • Salmon curry with imperial rice dinner dish at Luce on Morena Blvd Bay Parkand French 75 cocktail.
  • Sunday afternoon free no cover music at Aquarius in Mission Bay in Marina Village/Quivera Basin. Dead band “Driving the Bus”. No cover charge on the evenings. Good fish tacos. No french fries.
  • Seaforth Boat Rentals in Mission Bay for smaller 25 ft or 22 ft boat, can get up to 51 ft sailboat for rentals.  Coronado, Harbor Island. Variety, good location.  Can pay $50/hr for someone to skipper the boat.  Heidi will sail the boat for you!  Call her first!

Alexis

  • Himalayan scrub from Amazon. Love the smell. H3 Naturals brand. Alexis passed around the sample.
  • Biking in Mantua, Italy weeklong trip along the River Po to Venice.  Biked 30 miles/ day, mostly flat.  Wonderful guides. Went out in the evening, slept on the barge at night.  A/C and stored bikes and helmet.  River cruise and biking. Variety of friendly people from other countries. To top it off, last day relaxed as they approached Venice. Ave Maria tour company (red barge) during summertime.

Susan

  • Spinal Connection with doctors Katie and Allie in Bankers Hill. Chiropractors that take insurance. Several massage therapists on site, too. Lori Bloom was the masseuse.
  • Chanel Gabrielle favorite perfume.  Not a heavy scent.

Lisa

  • Tiki Oasis favorite event at the Town & Country. 4 day music festival of island life style, punk, surf guitar, new wave. Aug 2-6 2023, “The Enchanted Sea”  usually the first weekend in August.  If you like the Bali Hai, you’ll like the event.  Seminars about rum drinks. You can buy a daily ticket or for the weekend.   • Narcan opiate overdose reversal drug. Only works on opiates.  Nasal spray. Narcan use is not sueable.  Have Narcan in your car in case of emergency. Lisa uses while she works on the street with homeless populations. Lisa is a nurse practitioner.  She gave samples of Narcan.   ** future speaker for Global Gals. **

Suzanne

  • Bomber pilot jacket from 1986.
  • Book Designing your Life How to Build a Well Lived Joyful Life  from Stanford design lab.  Reads it every year.
  • “The Calm” app.  10 minute daily calm. Pay version also has sleep stories.  Stories read by famous voices.  Fall asleep before the end of the story.  About $60 for a year.  Likes it better than “Head Space” app.  LaBron James has two series. Also walk through stretching exercises.

Megan

  • Book The Art of Possibility    Benjamin and Rosamund Zander. Chapter on leadership
  • Book We should All Be Millionaires by Rachel Rodgers. For entrepreneurs. Also focus on women in business, remembering history of women’s rights.  Megan likes the woo aspect, spiritual, less scientific. Talks about women making money, talks about how wealth benefits others, its okay for women to want to be wealthy.
  • “Pandemic” game.  Megan plays with her husband and friends, up to 5 players.  Play together as a team to beat the pandemic. Megan likes to play together against the pandemic so that you are competing with each other (i.e. compete with your husband).  Dice game and instructional cards. Game also has an expansion pack.
  • Sleeping mask with cushion and ear buds. Easy to sleep with. Doesn’t hurt ears. Good for traveling.
  • Open Table for restaurant reservations. Gets updates on restaurants via email.

Kristin

  • Things I travel with.  Electric kettle Balbali on Amazon. Uses the boiling water to make coffee in her hotel room. $19-$50.
  •  Skin care procuct called the Sola Wave red light therapy. Removes splotchiness, redness, wrinkles.  5 minutes every day.  Comes with hydrating serum. Uses it at home and while traveling. Charges with USB cord.  $150 on Sola Wave website.
  • Eye lift in a tube.  Peter Thomas Roth Instant Firm Eye. Temporary eye lift. Put it on in the morning, dab a bit around and under the eye. Feel it tightening as it dries.  Sephora, Nordstrom in makeup department. 
  • “Triangle of Sadness” movie.  Great.

Sharon

  • Air fryer. Use it all the time. She ate carrots today.  Toss carrots in the olive oil then 10 minutes of roasting.  Sweet potatoes in 15 minutes.  Green beans, brussel sprouts, salmon, meats. Makes foods crispy. Low fat because very little oil.
  • Weight Watchers oatmeal muffin recipe. ½ cup oatmeal, 1/3 cup applesauce, egg, fruit.  Mix in a bowl, cook in microwave for 3 min 45 seconds. 
  • Ethan details cars at your house.  Different levels of detail $250 for deepest clean level 4. True Shine Carwash, Ethan Williams, 626-344-6095. Comes to your home.
  • Produce exchange in the Bird Rock neighborhood. One Sunday a month.  Email list. People show up at the local park and everyone takes stuff.  Usually from gardens or homemade.  Takes about ½ hour.  2nd Sunday of every month at 3:00. La Jolla Blvd at a church between Bird Rock and WindNSea.

Linda R

  • Trader Joes lavender salt scrub.  $6.  Use in the shower to exfoliate. Leaves a light oil on your skin.
  • Recipe Keeper app. Take photograph of handwritten recipe and translates. Adds ingredients to your shopping. Free for a certain number of recipes then paid a flat fee when you need to add more recipes.

Kim V

  • Silver jewelry making. Kim has been making silver jewelry for about 6 years.  Bracelets, necklaces. Has a studio at her home. Takes classes at San Diego Mineral & Gem in Spanish village. Sells to friends.
  • Sushi restaurant downtown Lumi.  Rooftop dining experience. It’s worth trying once.

Julie

  • Vitamix to make smoothies, humus, blended soups. She bought the high-end refurbished blender on ebay refurbished.
  • Ultra Star movie theater Hazard Center. Cheap movies. $10 every day, sometimes $5.
  • Homedics electronic foot soak. Heater, bubbles, hot water. Epsom salts.  Soak for 30 minutes.
  • NewYork times Crossword puzzles, Spelling Bee, Wordle. Subscription for the games. Heidi mentioned she got the recipe subscription as a gift from a friend.
  • Shutterfly books.  Costco shut photo lab and is now part of Shutterfly. With Costco, all Shutterfly products 50% off.

  • Mission Bay walks followed by a glass of wine at the Catamaran or her condo balcony overlooking the Bay.
