State Props

Prop 1: Constitutional Right to Reproductive Freedom Constitutional Amendment– Makes a change to the CA Constitution. No costs at this point. PRO: Makes reproductive rights a constitutional right, harder to change. If political climate changes, this amendment makes it harder to change Harder process to unchange constitution.  CON: Rights exist under state law. Do we need to change the constitution?

Prop 26: Allows InPerson Roulette, Dice Games on tribal lands – Skeptical that any money will come in. 

Prop 27: Allows Online and Sports Gambling outside tribal lands – SD Republican  Dem says Vote No

Prop 28: Additional funding for arts & music in public schools – Money being moved from education budget, moving money around. CA DEM support.  SD Republican neutral.

Prop 29: Kidney Dialysis Clinic Requirements – Voted on this in the past.  NO vote supported by the big clinics such as Davita.  YES vote supported by SEIU (union). Why does dialysis require medical profession? CA Dem  support.   SD Rep oppose. Link to LA Times article

Prop 30: Provides funding for programs to reduce air pollution – Supported by Lyft, contributed $45 million to vote yes.  Money for firefighters.  Money towards electrical v:ehicle subsidies and 35% to infrastructure and 20% to firefighters. Tax on personal income $2 million per year.  In 2035 only electric cars will be sold.  CA Dem support. SD Republican oppose.

Prop 31: Referendum on 2020 Law that would prohibit the retail sale of certain flavored tobacco products – a yes vote means in person stores and vending machines may NOT sell most flavored products.

Sec of State:  Shirley Weber, DEM and Rob Bernoski, REP

Controller: Lanhee Chen, REP and Malia M Cohen, DEM – Lanhee Chen he worked in the Obama and Bush administration; he says he can cross political lines.

Treasurer: Fiona Ma, DEM current and Jack Gerroro, REP  – One opinion:  as a Republican can look at it a different way than the Democrat majority.

Attorney General:  Rob Bonta, DEM; current, appointed by Governor. Nathan Hochman, REP.

Insurance Commissioner: n/a

Superintendent: Lance Christensen supports charter school/school choice.

Federal Senator:  Mark Muser, REP  and Alex Padilla, DEM.  Alex Padilla was appointed to take over Kamala Harris 2 years ago.

Measure A: Cannibis Business Tax – tax cannabis business tax in incorporated businesses. Support – makes taxes fair across city county.  Oppose – over taxing can cause increase in black market.

City of San Diego

Measure B: Amends charter to collect trash fee from single family homes.  Funds green initiative. Allows the city to impose a fee.

Measure C: Remove height limit of 30 feet. Exclude this specific area .City Council adopted a community plan in 2018. Measure D: Contracting Updates.   – unclear on which way to vote.  This is a very confusing measure. On the plus side, more transparency to publish contracts over $10,000. We need more investigation.

Measure H: supported by both Republican and Democrats.

Measure U:  School Bond – vote yes
