Guest speaker: Gretchen Viehl

Grethen started working at ElderHelp in 2016 right before Essence of Life event. Jaimie Christensen has been auction chair since then. Started the Inspirational Senior Award in 2016. The goal is to get attendees to donate money and to know what ElderHelp does.

Every gift is meaningful.

Partner with Alzheimers San Diego and other local San Diego senior organizations.

Average phone call into ElderHelp last on average 30 minutes.

Its all about what the senior chooses, keep the senior in charge and living independently.

The average cost of a fall is $30K-$35K.

Costs ElderHelp about $300 a month to provide the coordinated services a senior needs. Help with insurance paperwork, ride to the doctor, home maintenance, delivering groceries, etc.

Philanthropy can be about investing in yourself , serving others, investing in your community. Philanthropy can happen in a lot of different ways. You don’t need to have deep pockets to give back to the community.

  • Be there to help
  • Show your children how to give back.
  • Feeding America, beach clean up.
  • Be open, don’t be judgmental.
  • Porchlight Community in Tierransanta.
  • Enjoyable, fun, feels good.
  • Love working with youth and with elderly.

Think about the last time you wrote a check to a non-profit organization and how did it make you feel?

  • Personal connections.  A lot of people give because of personal connection.
  • Groups that do things together.
  • Personal connection through family members or friends.
  • Work/office connections. Industries that give back to the community.
  • Donate to organizatons that you use such as Wikipedia or KPBS (news that you listen to), SD Zoo, Symphony.
  • School fundraisers such as Jog-A-Thon
  • Making friends happy. You can see the reward.
  • Get value out of the donations.  At ElderHelp, donors can become clients.
  • Can give time, not only money.

The goal of Essence of Life event is to educate attendees about ElderHelp’s mission and services. The virtual event will showcase an inspirational senior, corporate partner, boluneetrs, clients, and community partner. Uplifting to meet the seniors and hear about the success stories.
